A Complex IOL Exchange Using the Scaffold Technique for an Out-of-the-Bag Lens Subluxation

Nhon T. Le, M.D., Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology, shares a video of a complex intraocular lens (IOL) exchange in a patient with an out-of-the-bag lens subluxation through a posterior capsule tear. The video highlights an approach using the "IOL scaffold technique," whereby a second IOL is implanted into the eye prior to the removal of the original IOL. The second IOL, implanted in the sulcus, protects the capsular bag and helps prevent further vitreous prolapse during the cutting and extraction of the original lens.
